Hab-A-Hearts

Marianne Vellis Reigns as Queen of Hearts at the 19th Annual Hab-a-Hearts Luncheon

.As the 270 guests entered the ballroom at Mar-a-Lago on February 8, 2010 for the 19th Annual Hab-a-Hearts Luncheon, they were dazzled by color... turquoise table clothes, fuchsia napkins, a white orchid in a white sleeve with a fuchsia bow, and a dark chocolate candy bar from Scheurer's Chocolates tied with a fuchsia and white bow. Complimenting the décor, hanging on each chair was a scrumptious Goodie bag, a pink & white Mildred Hoit bag with pink tissue sticking out of it. During the complimentary wine reception hosted by Diageo, guests proceeded to spend over $25,000 on more than 350 silent auction items. Throughout the event, Perfect 1864 Vodka provided free "Hab-a-Tinis" for all the guests.

Guests were welcomed by Co-Chairs Craig Mitchell, Linda Reichenstein, and Joanne Driscoll. Steering Committee Members were thanked for their hard work and stood to be recognized. Marianne Vellis, a long-time Hab-a-Hearts Steering Committee Member, was recognized as the 2010 Queen of Hearts and presented with a gift and flowers. Before guests dined on filet mignon, Committee member and auctioneer Jim Accursio, raised $8,250 in a small live auction of six items that included brunch for four at Mar-a-Lago, four New York Yankees tickets, a set of women's golf clubs and bag, and $1,000 in Saks Fifth Avenue Gift Cards. During dessert, guests enjoyed fashion show by Mildred Hoit of Palm Beach, which was emceed by Steven Gushee. Some of the models included Steering Committee members Prudie Anderson, Dee Behnke, Ann Jaggie, Jenifer Kelley and Sandra Lawrence. After dessert, the drawing for a black onyx ring was held, and Dawn Burke of Atlantis was the lucky winner.

Other Committee members include: Victoria Baker, Amy Bernard, Donna Brown, Trish Callow, Nancy Cashman, Madelyn Christopher, Judy Farmer, Barbara Fuschetti, Ann Growney, Phyllis Hoffman, Beverly Keller, Lee Kirwan, Henrietta Koretsky, Helen Logothetis, Beverlee Miller, Ann Opperthauser, Carol Pratt, Sheila Rinker, Pat Schweikart, Trish Akers Tackett, Marie Tynan, Barbara Whitford, and Babbette Wolff.
