2010 Fa-HAB-ulous Event

 "Key-it-Up" with Copeland Davis a huge Success!

More than 100 guests attended the “Key-it-Up” with Copeland Davis event on Thursday, October 7^th at Nick & Johnnie’s in Palm Beach.  The Fa-HAB-ulous Friends, an auxiliary of the Palm Beach Habilitation Center, transformed the back room with red, silver, and black Music-Note centerpieces and red and white tulle draped from the ceiling.

This second-year event was chaired by Beverlee Miller and Committee Members included Donna Batelaan, Amy Bernard, Brenda Burnette, Allie Haft, Sharon Kung, Deborah Morgan, Thais Pagani, Lisa Peterfreund, Christine Pitts, Suzanne Holmes, Elaine Scola, Valerie Seifert, Barbara Socher, Kent Walton, and Barbara Wymer.

As guests arrived, Committee members greeted them at the door and gave them an opportunity to purchase raffle boxes, with a 50% chance of winning a myriad of items, baskets, or gift certificates.   A silent auction of 29 items, including a week in North Carolina, a Tiffany bracelet, an 8GB I-POD, a portable Toshiba DVD player, Palm Beach Fire Chief of a Day, in-home dinner for 8 by Trulucks, foursome of golf at Boca Pointe Country Club, SAKS Fifth Avenue Beauty Basket, dinner for 10 at Brio Tuscan Grill, etc.

Beverlee thanked and recognized the Committee Members, and the major sponsors/underwriters of the event including Akerman Senterfit, PNC Bank, Donna & Dave Batelaan, her mother Cookie Miller, Mestal Foundation, Toshiba Business Systems, Hastings Foundation, Nick & Johnnie’s, and Northern Trust.  

Miller introduced Copeland Davis and guests watched in awe as his fingers danced across the keyboard.  For more than an hour, Copeland mesmerized guests with his talent - playing a variety of songs and ending with Rhapsody in Blue.  

Hab Center Board Members attending included Babbette Wolff, Earl Moore, Cheryl Gibbs, Lionel Greenbaum, Otis Brown, Adrianne Weissman, Mo Thorton, and Tina Philips, President/CEO.  Others in attendance were Mayor Lois Frankel, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Don and Patsy Mintmire, and Paulette Burdick.

The proceeds of the event are designated for the Computer Employment Training Program, which provides individuals with disabilities the skills and knowledge they need to operate a computer efficiently.
